Archives, Libraries and
Asian Studies Documentation Centres
In Portugal, there are, in Lisbon, in addition to the CCCM Library, the CHAM Library (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), the Library of the Institute of Asian Studies and the João Paulo II University Library (Universidade Católica Portuguesa), the Library of the Academy of Sciences, the Library of the Geographical Society of Lisbon, the Camões Library, the António Alçada Baptista Documentation Centre of the Oriente Foundation, and the Documentation Centre of the Instituto do Oriente (ISCSP). Furthermore, there are other entities that have collections related to Asia. It should also be noted that three of the most important archives and international reference libraries in Portugal with such collections are in the vicinity of the CCCM, namely the Ajuda Library, the Overseas Historical Archives, and the Archives for Diplomatic History. It may also be mentioned that the CCCM lies in close proximity to the Archives of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Other archives and libraries based in Lisbon, such as the Torre do Tombo National Archives and the National Library of Portugal, are easily accessible from the CCCM, due to its excellent central location. Outside the Lisbon region, other institutions that hold collections in the same fields are the District Archives of Braga, the District Archives of Porto, the Public and Municipal Library of Porto, the Archives and Library of the University of Coimbra, the Public Library of Évora, the Évora District Archives, and the National Palace of Mafra Library.
